An Ode to a Hardworking Mother

By: Jules Fred C. Batisla-ong

I may have friends who’s always there for me
And makes me smile every time I’m hurt
But at the end of the day there’ll be no one around
It was only you keeping me close to the heart

I may have enemies that are closer to me
Breaking me down and tearing me apart
But there’s one place that I know I ‘m safe
It’s your mantle of protection that kept me away from harm

I may have girlfriends who made me laugh
Made me cry and broke my heart
But there’s person who’d love me more
And that is you mother what more could I ask for

And to this day, no one can fathom
The love, the sacrifice and the entire burden
And even though sometimes I forgot to thank you
But deep within me I do love you
